WAGAH BORDER INFORMATION & HISTORY

The Wagah Border is located 28 kms from the city of Amritsar in the Indian State of Punjab. Border is the boundary between India and pakistan. There is a huge trunk road which connects India and Pakistan. It is famous for the border crossing ceremony also called a beating retreat ceremony. Which helds every day in the evening before the sunset. Ceremony included closing of the Gates of border and lowering the flags of both the countries. Ceremony is attended by thousands of People from all over the Country. Wagah border is also called as a Attari Border.

The history of Wagah border ceremony which is also known as the beating retreat ceremony. Was Started in the year 1959 after the independence of both the countries the ceremony was agreed by both the countries. The meet of both the country soldiers is a sign of brother wood and rivalry between the two countries.

The lowering of the flag also takes place during the ceremony. Where the Border Security Force (BSF) lower the Indian flag and Pakistan Rangers lower their Pakistani Flag. In 2011 India made a decision to involve indian Women BSF guards in the Ceremony. So from 2011 BSF Women guards also participated in the ceremony.

It is a 30 min Ceremony which is attended by thousands of People everyday. During the ceremony people sing the National Anthem as well as people dance and entertain by Bollywood hindi songs. This moment is a pride to watch for every Indian hence this is one of the best places to visit in India.

Best time to visit the Wagah border Amritsar is between the months of November to June.

Timing for the ceremony changes according to the seasons in winters. The Ceremony starts at 4.15 pm whereas it starts at 5.15 pm in summers.
