RANN OF KUTCH INFORMATION & HISTORY

The Rann of Kutch is a beautiful salt Desert located in the Indian state of Gujarat. The region is divide into two parts Great Rann of Kutch and Little Rann of Kutch and has massive deposits of Salts in the desert. It is one of the largest salt deserts in the World. The Great Rann of Kutch is derive from the word “Rann” in means are Desert. Sunsets are a treat to watch while exploring the Desert.

This is a flooded grassland zone in India and has a desert one side and the Arabain sea on the other. The salt march of the Great Rann of Kutch is locate in the Thar deserts in Kutch. The desert is spread around the Area of about 7500 Sq km making it one of the largest Salt Desert in the world. Some portion of the desert lies in pakistan.

The desert lies in between the gulf of Kutch and the Indus river in Pakistan and has flatlands of salty clay about 15 meters of Sea level.

This flatlands were once a part of Arabain sea but got separated due to the geological uplift of the region. It is home for birds like Flamingos, Common Teal, Pelicans, Ducks and Sarus Cranes. The desert has been featured in many Famous Indian movies like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Sarainodu etc.

The region has been so famous for its natural beauty that ii was feature in numerous films in India, for example – Refugee, Magadheera, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, Sarainodu etc. Many tourists from all over the world visit the desert to Experience the beauty of this of white desert. This is one of the major destinations for the photographers.

Best time to visit is from the month of October to March as the climate during this month is pleasant to travel. 

The Rann utsav is a festival which is celebrated here in between the months of November to February.
