The Ellora Caves were excavated over a period of five centuries, from the 6th to the 11th centuries CE. They were patronized by various dynasties, including the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, Yadavas, and later the Kalachuris and Chalukyas of Kalyani. These caves served as centers of religious worship, pilgrimage, and artistic expression.
