MUNNAR KERALA INFORMATION & HISTORY

The Munnar Kerala is a hill station and a town located in the Idukki district in the beautiful indian State of Kerala. The hill station is approx 1600 ft above in the western ghat. This is one of the famous and beautiful hill stations in Kerala. The hill station is also named as ” kashmir of Kerala” and is also one of the popular destinations for honeymoon. It is surround with a dotted tea estate and a beautiful blanket of mist and greenery makes it one of the beautiful destinations to visit in Kerala.

Munnar Hill Station divides into two parts, old Munnar and Munnar. The hill station is on the banks of 3 rivers-Mattupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru. Apart from this the hill station is also a natural viewpoint from where you can click beautiful landscape pictures. The hill station came into existence after John Daniel Munro Visited in the 1870s. As the British Resident of Travancore kingdom, he was call in to solve a border dispute between Travancore and its neighbour Madras. Disaster struck the area in 1924. The monsoon that year was particularly bad. Heavy landslides and flooding destroyed the terrain. Many lives and property were lossed.

When Tata Group entered in 1964 they collaborated with the finlay group and in 1983 Tata finlay was form.In 2005 Tata Tea LTD transferred the ownership to new company the Kannan Devan Hills Produce Company Pvt. Ltd. In the 20the century the tourism company redefined natural beauty and its flora and fauna to the world. Although the destination is also open in the summer and rainy season.But summers here are mild and hot and also rainy season may affect your travelling as there is a lot of rainfall in this region.

Best time to visit the hill station is in winter between the months of October to January.

This is also the best season for trekking rock climbing hence many people from all around the world visit the destination during the winter.
