INFORMATION :
The fort is located near the Famous hill station of Lonavala in Maharashtra State. The fort is considered as the neighbourhood of Visapur fort. Lohagad killa has four entrance gates which are Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuma Darwaja and Maha Darwaja from the nearby village. There are beautiful sculptures carved on the Maha Darwaja. Major attraction and the most famous spot is Vinchu Kata, a range of hills that looks like Capricorn. One can get a beautiful view of Pawna Lake from the top of the fort. There are also many reverse waterfalls in monsoon near the fort.
HISTORY :
The fort was built in the 18th century by Guru Gobind Singh. Lohagad killa It has been a center of power for : Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizams, Mughals and Marathas. Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj Captured the fort in 1648 but in 1665 the fort was surrendered to the Mughal under the treaty of Purandar. In the 1670’s Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort and thereafter the fort was used to keep the treasury. Later during the times of Peshwa, Nana padnavis used this fort for living for some time and also built some structures and big tanks on the fort. It was gone under the government after independence.
Best time to visit Lohagad fort is from June to March.
It is visited by many tourists in the monsoon as well as in winters. There are many waterfalls near the fort during monsoon.
The Nearest Airport is Pune Airport (PNQ) which is approx 69 kms from the Lohagad Fort.
The Nearest Railway Station is Lonavala Railway Station it is approx. 11 kms.
Mumbai To Lohagad is approx. 99 kms Via Lonavala Road. .
