TIKONA FORT INFORMATION & HISTORY

INFORMATION :

This fort is also known as Vitangad is a hill fort in Maval near Pune in  Maharashtra. The fort is of pyramid shape and the name is also given as per it as Tikona means “Triangular” Tikona. The major attraction of the forts is the large door of the fort at the entrance. The temple of Trimbakeshwar Mahadev, water tanks and Satvahan caves. Pawna lake, Tung fort, Lohagad fort and Visapur fort can be seen from this fort.

HISTORY :

The fort was capture by Shivaji Maharaj in 1657 when Maharaj brought the whole Konkan which was Nizam’s territory. The Deshmukhs from Maval region were incharge of the security of the fort. It was under the Dhamale Deshmukh family for a long time. The fort was again capture by the Mughals in 1665 under the commander Kubad khan who attacked the locals. The fort was recaptured by Marathas, During 1818 the battle was between the Marathas and britishers. After independence the fort was gone under the Government of India and was declared as a historical Monument.

Best Time to Visit Tikona Fort is From October to March.The fort of Tikona located over the Pawna lake gives the beautiful view of Pawna lake.

As well as there are also some famous forts beside Lohagad Fort and Visapur Fort.
