Golden temple is one of the Holiest shrines of Sikhism Located in the City of Amritsar to the north of India. It is also called as “Harmandir Sahib” which means “Home of God”. There is a human pool built in front of the temple. Temple looks beautiful and a treat to watch during the night as the Golden colour under the shine of yellow light is peace to watch. This temple is known for the Symbol of brotherhood and Equality. The temple is also called as “Swarn Mandir Amritsar” which means Golden temple Amritsar.
The Golden temple is Located in the middle of the beautiful city of Amritsar. Construction of the temple began in 1574 when Akbar donated the Land for the temple and the construction was begun.This was ready in 1601 and the foundation was laid by the fifth and sixth Sikh gurus. In the 19th century the lotus shaped dome was invaded with 100kg of gold and decorative marbles. It took place under the warrior king of the Sikh’s, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It was resorted and made attractive continuously over the years. Structure of the Golden temple consist of Akal takht and teja singh Samundri hall, Clock tower, ber trees, Sikh history museum. Where the akal takht is in the complex of the Temple is the primary seat and chief authority of Sikhism.
Clock tower was not originally in the construction of the temple; it was built by british which is just in front of the palace. Sikh history museum has paintings made by Sikh guru as well as photos of Martyrs. Museum takes you back to the historic culture of Sikh’s. There is a big Festival celebrated every year During the Second week of April on the day of Vaisakhi, Many Sikh’s from all over the India and world visit the temple during this Festival. Many other festivals are celebrated here, like the birthday of guru nanak, birth anniversary of Guru ram das etc. Timings of the temple is from 4 am to 11 Pm and is open all 7 days of the week.
Best time to visit Golden temple Amritsar is between the months of October to April. The climate in Punjab is peasant and cool during this time.
